Thought for Food

Updated: Aug 27, 2020

Thought I would throw in this philosophical question. Should we really be farming octopus for food? In light of them being overfished in certain areas, the current push for more ocean aquaculture includes setting up farming for octopus, especially in Japan. While there are many good reasons to NOT do it, such as an unfavorable feed conversion ratio, where they must be fed three pounds of seafood to produce one pound of octopus, and their solitary nature with aggressive tendencies towards their tank-mates. The more philosophical question is whether these highly intelligent creatures should be cooped up without any stimulation. I know from experience that owning an octopus is not like owning a fish - you duty is to engage them and keep things interesting or they may develop a tendency to self-destruct. Something to consider. Besides...octopus are not that great to eat,

very chewy. Trust me (a VERY past experience for me!)
