Pump Malfunction

The bad news is that my water pump was down for a few hours yesterday.  The good news is that my tankmates are tough, and all pulled through.  The best news is that I have a company that knows what they are doing that I can rely on, Aquatica from San Marcos, whose owner Dave came out on a Sunday and got things functioning again. What happened is that I was doing a 20% water change and stirred up the substrate in the refugium enough to get stones sucked up and stuck in the pump rotor.  Luckily I did turn it off when I saw there was no water flow (but not before I totally flooded the room via the sump because water being added there did not get returned to the tank).  I do not recommend it. I now know a whole lot more about how my plumbing works, like how to take the motor apart! I will also be getting a new tool to clean the inside of the tank, a better way to feed the animals so that food does not go everywhere, and some plumbing modifications so that less water will leak when I do have to open things up again.

Animals are doing well – I see one of the sand sea stars frequently.  Penny the Blenny is probably full sized now.  My remaining sea hare still is eating voraciously and is a good 12 inches long.  (30 cm).  The smaller sea hare is still eating, but not growing as quickly as the larger one did.  Still only about 8 cm long.  As soon as the Nori goes into the water they both perk up and start looking/smelling for it.

Larger one!
