Interacting with the ocean just got more fun this month! Birch Aquarium reopens September 15, Seaworld currently has special events August 28 - September 27, Friday through Sunday, and Legoland's Sea Life Aquarium is open on Friday September 4th. Legoland's Hotel and miniland had both already been reopened. All attractions require reservations so that a limited capacity can be maintained due to COVID.
For a treat, be sure to check out the "Stuck on Octopus Enrichment" at the bottom of the page at https://aquarium.ucsd.edu/ at the Steven Birch Aquarium.
Sea World's event is a limited time "Zoo Days: Bayside BBQ & Brews". They will feature animal presentations but no rides or arcades. Tickets are required for pass holders as well. https://seaworld.com/san-diego/zoo-days-bayside-bbq-and-brews/
Legoland's Hotel and miniland have both already been reopened.
All aquariums have huge operating expenses due to heating, cooling, filtering and pumping the sea water and food to sustain all their critters. The operating costs for the Birch Aquarium in around $25,000 a day! These expenses don't stop while the facilities are shuttered, so please think about visiting them and/or sending a little support their way. Too many of my favorite stores and restaurants have gone belly up recently - I would be so sad if I had nowhere to go to get my fish fix!
