Nature Will Endure

Updated: Aug 27, 2020

Just a small thought as I started to edit my blog calendar. Considering how much I have had to slash through my own personal calendar for all the appointments, concert dates and get-togethers that I have had to abolish, I didn't have to change much on my blog calendar. The Grey Whales are still migrating, the grunion are still coming...they get to stay. Nature's events march on, in blissfull Covid19 obliviousness. Now that we can't go to the beaches in San Diego or enjoy a day out on the water in a boat, we may rethink how important it is for us to be experiencing the ocean. The "bathing in nature" experience at the beach can be hearing the wind and waves, feeling the sun and sand. It is always available to us - until it isn't. Today, unavailability is a temporary measure in the fight against Covid. In the future, the beaches could be permanently closed due to pollution. As good stewards of the environment, fighting for the viability of the ocean is a worthy cause. Any legislation regarding water quality in our rivers and waterways is having an impact on the ocean. It should concern us whenever protections are stripped away from our waterways to benefit businesses over ecology. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/22/climate/trump-environment-water.html Just be aware of what is going on, and team up with one of the groups like Oceana to help.

One positive - I spoke to one of the lifeguards in Encinitas and he notices a lot more trash washing up and accumulating on the beach now that it is closed. When people were there, they were picking it up! Yea, Encinitas!
